Tony Nathan is a former professional football player who played as a running back in the National Football League (NFL) for the Miami Dolphins organization from 1979 to 1987. He was born on December 5, 1956, in Birmingham, Alabama.
Nathan played college football at the University of Alabama under coach Paul "Bear" Bryant from 1975 to 1978. He was known for his versatility as a runner, receiver, and kick returner, and was a key player in the 1978 Sugar Bowl victory that secured Alabama's national championship.
During his time with the Miami Dolphins, Nathan was a reliable and productive player, rushing for over 3,500 yards and scoring 32 touchdowns. He also contributed as a receiver out of the backfield, totaling over 4,000 receiving yards and 16 touchdown receptions.
After retiring from professional football, Tony Nathan has worked as a motivational speaker, football coach, and mentor for youth. His story was the subject of the 2015 film "Woodlawn," which chronicled his experience as a high school football star in the racially charged environment of Birmingham in the 1970s.
